Down here at the bottom of the world (the southern part of New Zealand, to be precise) it’s the middle of winter. Cold. Frosty. Snow on the mountains that are visible from my house. Temperatures that rarely make it into double digits, and days that get dark early and stay dark until late - I need my headlights on to drive to work at 8.30am and it’s dusk when I walk my dog after work at 5pm. Most people find it gloomy, but I personally love winter. I love curling up in front of our fire with a good book and a hot mug of Milo and I love putting on 50 layers of clothes to go outside. Okay, so that’s a slight exaggeration. Obviously I wouldn’t be able to move with 50 layers of clothes on. But I do wear lots of clothes in winter time - I feel the cold, and like to be outdoors, so Merino for the win! I also currently have a wicked toothache, so wrap a scarf over my face every time I go outside to protect my mouth from the cold, and probably look like some kind of weird criminal.
I’m not sure if it’s a Kiwi thing or just a my-family thing, but in July, we have a mid-winter Christmas party, because why not? So, to share the mid-winter Christmas love (or Christmas in July if it’s summer where you live) I’ve put all my Christmas-themed books on sale/free! This week only
Her Fake Fiance is FREE on Amazon until Sunday. (It’s also in KU)
How far would you go to make your Grandma happy at Christmas? I invented a fiancé.
It seemed safe enough – none of the other family members had brought their significant others along to family gatherings until they were married, and I was counting on that tradition to get away with my lie.
So when Grandma insisted I bring him along, I freaked. I mean, wouldn’t you? Christmas was in less than two weeks, and I didn’t even have a boyfriend, let alone a fiancé. How on earth was I supposed to find someone to fill that role two weeks before Christmas?
When my bestie comes to the rescue, introducing me to her cousin Zane, I breathe a huge sigh of relief. Until the panic sets in at the realisation of exactly what this plan means. After all, not just any man will be accepted by my extended clan. All the men in my family believe in the same thing: obedient women; and they all use the same method to achieve their goal – no matter how outdated it seems.
How is a pretend fiancé going to get around that very important requirement? Will Zane be up to the task? Or am I going to have to swallow my pride and admit to my lie and break Grandma’s heart in the process?
If you live in the US, The Christmas Reunion should be 99 cents until next Wednesday! Because I’m in New Zealand it’s still showing full price for me, but according to my Amazon dashboard it’s definitely on sale, so I just have to trust that the tools are working correctly. This is the last book I ever wrote as Kelly Dawson, and it’s the first time I’ve ever had a custom cover. The paperback is gorgeous! It’s only the e-book that is discounted, though. It’s also in KU.
Allie Wilson swore she’d never go back to Heartbreak Creek. She’s made a life for herself in the city, and the small New Zealand town she grew up in holds too many memories she’d rather leave in the past. But when her mother’s illness pulls her home for one last Christmas, she knows she can’t refuse.
She returns home just in time for the town’s annual Christmas picnic where she’s reunited with Carl Henderson – now the local cop, and her biggest childhood crush. His warm gaze and flirtatious grin make it clear that he remembers her, too… and this time, the chemistry between them is undeniable.
As the summer heat and the holiday spirit fills the town, Allie finds herself caught between her life back in the city and the possibility of a future she never dreamed of in Heartbreak Creek.
As an aside, I’ve kept the name Heartbreak Creek for the name of the (fictional) town in the romantic suspense I’m writing under my new name! I’ll share more details soon :)
Daddy Takes Over Christmas is a bonus book to my hugely popular New Zealand Daddies series. It’s standalone, but it’s best if you’ve read the other books in the series HERE
It features Bianca - who has Tourette’s (just like me!) and Jen - a female jockey with a drug problem. This book has been out a while, so you might have read it already, but if you haven’t, grab it now for just 99 cents! (Again…. I think this sale price is only available for US readers, unfortunately :( I wish Amazon let me make it that price everywhere!)
I actually wrote a newsletter-exclusive short story/bonus scene for this book/series, featuring the same characters and you can find it here:
May Madness
The title is lies. There’s no madness. Well there is, and it’s everywhere! But it’s not in this newsletter. In this newsletter, there’s only goodness. Spanky goodness.
Here’s the blurb for Daddy Takes Over Christmas
Bianca has hated Christmas ever since her beloved sister died. It holds too many memories, and each memory brings up a new wave of pain.
Christmas at the Lewis Stables doesn't have to be like any other Christmas, though. Not when there is a whole stable full of colleagues to give prank gifts to, and a sexy man to dress up and play Santa. If she can convince him, that is.
Clay agrees, on one condition: she has to be the naughty elf. But just how naughty can Santa's elf be before she ends up over Santa's knee?
Is anyone else having car trouble this month? Last week my car (a yellow Mini) wouldn’t start…. turns out it was the starter motor. My son had to drive me to and from work all week (which was lovely, because he couldn’t escape and had to talk to me LOL) and now there are multiple warning lights on the dashboard. I generally just keep driving merrily along, ignoring all the lights, and turning up the radio to block out any strange noises, but these lights could potentially be serious. The brakes still work if the SBS light is on, right? (Isn’t it a pity I’ve retired this pen name? That would be a good premise for a spanky story!)
Until next time…..
Kelly xoxo
