The title is lies. There’s no madness. Well there is, and it’s everywhere! But it’s not in this newsletter. In this newsletter, there’s only goodness. Spanky goodness.
Daddy Takes the Reins is still my favourite book (I think) - mainly because, like me, Bianca has Tourette’s, and her experience of Tourette’s is mine, pretty much exactly. The way it affects her life, is the same way it affects my life. And the attitudes she faces, are attitudes I’ve faced in the past. It’s had so much awesome feedback - the Tourette’s aspect clearly resonated with a lot of readers. So I did a thing! I wrote you all a little bonus scene - exclusive to this newsletter - so we could revisit these characters again, or you can meet them for the first time if you haven’t read this series.
There are four books in this series - the original three which you can find here and a Christmas novella which you can find here. All are in KU, and available as ebooks and paperbacks. If you want a signed bookplate to go in them, simply reply to this email!
Daddy Takes the Reins features Bianca (with Tourette’s) and Clay, set on a racing stable in southern New Zealand.
Daddies Take Control features Jen and Clay’s brothers Luke and Cody (both of them are side characters in Book 1) and set on the same racing stable.
Daddy Takes Command features Sarah and Nick - who turns out to be a cousin of the Lewis brothers. This book is set on a farm in Southland, NZ, not far from the Lewis Stables. Bianca and Jen and the Lewis brothers all make an appearance, too!
Daddy Takes Over Christmas features Jen and Bianca as naughty elves celebrating Christmas in the stables with Clay as a sexy Santa!
And the exclusive bonus scene I wrote just for you - not available anywhere else - features Jen and Bianca and Clay as the stern disciplinarian daddy. Pull up a chair and grab your favourite drink and read on…. I hope you enjoy it!
But first: this book by Maggie Ryan and Allie Belle is on my kindle this month! Maggie Ryan has been one of my favourite spanky authors since I first discovered the genre, and Maggie and Allie don’t disappoint in this one. Grab it here!
And now, what you’ve been waiting for! The exclusive bonus scene. Please let me know what you think! What book/characters do you want to see a bonus scene from next? Let me know and I’ll write it next month!
Bonus scene for NZ Daddies Series
“Bitch,” Jen hissed as Bianca passed her in the wide centre aisle of the big Lewis Stables complex.
It was that way every now, whenever they walked past each other, and it was starting to have a negative effect on the staff. Morale was low, tempers were short, and the tension was so thick in the air you could cut it with a knife.
Jen had never forgiven Luke for putting Bianca up on one of their new horses instead of her, and she didn’t let him – or her – forget it. For some reason, she blamed Bianca just as much as she did Luke, even though Bianca had nothing to do with the decisions the Racing Manager made.
Just because she’d won the race when the odds were stacked against them…. Jen could have won that race, too, she knew. Jen was the professional jockey with years of experience, after all. Bianca wasn’t much more than an apprentice.
The whole stable had taken sides – and it was fairly even divided. About half of them thought Jen had been wronged, and reckoned she was fully justified in being upset and bitter and taking it out on Bianca, and the other half thought she was behaving like a spoilt brat, upset that her connections hadn’t given her the benefits she expected.
Tears stung Bianca’s eyes. She missed her friend. It wasn’t her fault that Luke had made the call for her to ride Rocket – Jen had been sick in bed for three days by then, and Luke had been trying to do the right thing. But ever since, Luke had been away at some racing conference, leaving Bianca to deal with the fall-out.
She took a deep breath, forcing back the tics that threatened to erupt out of her in a violent explosion. Why were they ruining their friendship over a race? It made no sense. But that logic didn’t stop her trading insults.
“Piss off, Jen. You’re just jealous that I won, and it did wonders for my career. Luke’s going to put me up on winners all the time, now!”
They stood in the middle of the barn, toe-to-toe, curse-laden insults flying. Bianca exhausted her entire repertoire of swear words and started making up new ones, while Jen retaliated with words and curses of equal venom. Staff gathered around, not to intervene, but simply as spectators, enjoying their morning’s entertainment. This explosion had been building for a while, and they’d all been affected by the tension. Bianca was only semi-aware of their audience, but she didn’t care anyway – she was sick of this, and it had to stop. Having it out with Jen, in public if necessary, was the only way she knew of to make it end.
“My office, ladies. Now.” The stern voice made them both jump. So far, they’d managed to keep their bickering out of the presence of Luke and Clay, but now, probably thanks to every single staff member on the place standing there watching, and their yelling, they’d been busted. By the looks of things, Clay had heard every word, and he didn’t look happy.
Instantly, they both fell silent. It had been a long time since Bianca had felt the wrath of her daddy, and she wasn’t looking forward to feeling it again so soon, especially when this whole thing wasn’t even her fault. Not really.
“She started it!” Bianca insisted, stabbing her finger in Jen’s general direction but Clay just pointed at the stairs at the side of the barn that led to the mezzanine floor above them where the offices were located, and glared sternly at them both, fully expecting them to obey. And, hesitantly, dragging their feet as much as they dared, they did.
“Jen started it!” Bianca said again, half way up the stairs.
“I don’t care who started it,” Clay growled. “It finishes now.”
Trembles rocketed down Bianca’s spine as Clay kicked the door shut with his foot, shutting the three of them in the privacy of his office. Usually, this was a sanctuary for her, a place where she could take time out in peace with her colouring books and pencils, escaping from the pressures of life. A place where she could let her tics out, free from judging eyes. Now, it was going to be a place of punishment.
“Find a corner, ladies.”
Usually, when Bianca was in trouble, Clay turned into ‘strict daddy’ mode, and while he was firm, he was also caring, and allowed her to let out her little side. But with Jen here, getting in trouble was completely different. There was no baby girl, or princess – the terms of endearment he used for her, even when she was about to be punished. Instead, he was all business. She could feel a tic welling up inside her, bursting to be let out, but she didn’t want to give in to the pressure yet. Not before she had her nose in the corner and nobody could see, anyway. Jen had never made fun of her Tourette’s before, but they’d never had a fight like this before, either. She wasn’t taking any chances: she hurried into the corner and stood close to the wall before letting her body twist and shrug, her face contort wildly, her jaw crack and her eyebrows raise so high they hurt – a combination violent tic that relieved all the pressure inside of her and left her feeling slightly less tense.
She only half listened as Clay paced his office, lecturing them on their inappropriate, unruly behaviour and shocking use of bad language, disrupting the peace in the stables and causing division. But she heard Jen’s argument, loud and clear, and the pain in her words.
“But I worked so hard for it!” she cried. “I put so much work into that horse, and Luke took it all away from me! She got to win on the horse that I put so much effort into!”
Clay sighed, and his voice softened. But Bianca was glad she didn’t hear him walk over to Jen. She didn’t want her daddy to comfort her rival – her ex-best friend. Not now. Not when Jen was being so rotten to her.
“You’ll get your chance, Jen,” he said. “You were really sick – Luke was worried about your health. You have no idea how many nights he sat up late, worrying about you. His first thought was getting you better. You needed to heal. And Bianca had a bond with the horse, so it made sense to put her up on him. Besides which, isn’t it better that Bianca won, rather than withdraw him from the race completely? Ordinarily, you’d celebrate your friend winning.”
Bianca tensed as Clay’s footsteps sounded heavy behind her, and she sucked in a breath when his hand went around her throat, pulling her head back so he could growl directly into her ear. “And I’m very disappointed in you, baby girl. Using language like that, and against your best friend, too! I expected more compassion and understanding from you, little girl.” Disappointment dripped from his voice and he didn’t move to hug her. Instead, he let go of her throat and stepped away.
“Both of you, get over here, bare your butts and bend over.” He tapped his palm sharply against his big mahogany desk, then strode briskly from the room, closing it behind him.
Jen’s eyes bored into Bianca, piercing her with hate. She glared back, unapologetic. It didn’t matter that her daddy was disappointed, she was totally justified in being mean; Jen had been mean first.
The sound of Clay’s office door opening again had both girls hustling to tug their jeans and underwear down to their knees, bending their bodies over the big expanse of desk, bare to his gaze. It wasn’t the first time the girls had been punished together – Bianca’s mind drifted back to the time they’d all been punished by Cody, at their friend Sarah’s house down the road. She shuddered. That had not been pleasant. She doubted this punishment would be as harsh, though.
As the door slammed behind him, Bianca couldn’t resist craning her neck to look. But when she did, she gasped: soap! Dripping wet! This was not going to be good. Clay caught her eye. “Yes, princess, soap. You’re both going to hold soap in your mouths to get rid of that filthy language, while I give you a belting you won’t soon forget.”
He came around to the front of his desk, leaned across it, and looked at them dangerously. “Open up,” he commanded, pushing a bar of soap into first Jen’s mouth, then Bianca’s.
The soap was revolting. It was bitter and gross and awful and the way it lathered up in her mouth and trickled down her throat and out between her lips made her gag. Already, tears burned the back of her eyes from the terrible taste, and her punishment hadn’t even started yet. How could her daddy be so cruel?
Clay’s hands went to the thick leather belt he wore around his waist, his fingers working to undo the buckle, as he wandered slowly back around his desk, so he stood behind the two miscreants.
“Butts out, girls. Stick them out and keep them there, and don’t let that soap fall.”
The whoosh of the belt as Clay pulled it free of his pants loops sent a tremble down her spine and the jangle of the buckle as he palmed the ends made her hold her breath in fearful anticipation.
Swish, crack! Bianca jumped at the horrible sound of leather hitting flesh, and braced herself for the impact she knew was coming her way next.
Swish, crack! Biting down hard on the soap, she was determined not to cry out, but as the belt fell for a second, then a third time, she couldn’t help hissing in pain.
Clay walked back and forth behind the two girls, lashing his belt hard across the bottom of each of them in turn, leaving behind a burning line of fire each time.
After the fifth smack, Bianca instinctively reached out for Jen’s hand, needing the strength of her friend to help her through this. Jen’s fingers laced through hers and squeezed, and it was then that Clay stopped. He stood behind them and replaced his belt, while Jen and Bianca stayed where they were, bent over Clay’s desk, holding tightly to each other’s hands. Friends again, their past disagreement forgotten.
“You can spit out the soap now,” Clay said. “Pull up your pants, go to the bathroom and rinse your mouths, then come back here.”
In unison, both Jen and Bianca threw the soap to the floor, screwing up their faces, and fixed their pants, yelping in pain as the rough fabric chafed against their burning bottoms. The taste in her mouth was disgusting, and she needed to get rid of it, but more than that, she needed her friend. She wrapped her arms around Jen, hugging her tight.
“I’m sorry,” she whispered.
“Me too,” Jen whispered back.
Behind Jen’s shoulder, Clay caught Bianca’s eye and smiled.
“Good girl,” he mouthed.
Bianca smiled happily. All was right in her world once again: she had her friend back.
