If you’re one of my readers who has followed my career since the beginning, you might remember my one and only spicy sci-fi Taking His Human Bride. It was originally published with Stormy Night Publications, way back in 2016. One of my early books. It immediately sprang to number 1 in the sci-fi romance category on Amazon, but something made Amazon clutch its pearls, and my most successful book (at that point) was TOO HOT for Amazon and it got banned or “dungeoned” (in author terms) which means its not searchable, although it’s still technically for sale, if you can find it, which you can’t unless you have (or had, in this case) a direct link. Sales dropped immediately. I was gutted. They never recovered, either :( Amazon’s algorithms do a fair bit of promotion in the early days of a book release, and if a book is popular, Amazon pushes it more, but if it’s not being bought/read in KU Amazon doesn’t push it. So once it got blocked, that was it. I went on to have many other books be successful, but none of them ever hit #1 in their category.
But anyway, because it’s an old book, I’ve got the rights back for it, and I’ve got a pretty new cover made by my fantastic Ukrainian lady cover designer, come up with a new blurb (which I’m actually super happy with - I think I’m finally getting the hang of this blurb writing thing!) and re-released it to share with the world again! If you have been reading me for years, check you don’t already have this; if you do, it’s exactly the same book, just in a new package. It hasn’t been changed. If you don’t have it, here is your chance to grab my one and only “too hot for Amazon” book! But be warned: this is far darker than my normal Kelly Dawson fare. It’s got a bit of non-con medical play and stuff, and I actually lost a friendship over this book. A girl I went to school with who was into science fiction (and BDSM, she claimed) wanted to read it, so I sent her a copy, and she emailed me back to say my book was terrible, abusive and sadistic, and triggered her into a severe panic attack, and she never spoke to me again. That was nearly a decade ago. So be warned! I really enjoyed writing it and it really pushed my personal boundaries. If you want to know the contents, reply to this email and I will be happy to tell you. But if you’re familiar with dark romance, and enjoy it, I highly doubt this book will shock you.
Goodreads reviews (from the first edition) say the sex is scorching and the punishments, hot. One review refers to Damian (our sexy alien hero) as a “nice kidnapper” and I guess that sums him up fairly well. He’s brutal and harsh, but kinda nice at the same time. Another review says it’s packed with heat and suspense. And yet another review complains that it’s too sweet/tame, despite being my darkest book by far. So if you read it, please please please do me a favour and leave your own review either on Amazon, or Goodreads or Bookbub or wherever it is you like to leave reviews! Or just reply to this email and let me know personally what you thought :)
For now, it’s only available on Amazon and in KU, but it will be available on all the retailers later in the year. It will be out in paperback later in the month (well next month actually, considering it’s the last day of February today).
Taking His Human Bride has also been translated into Spanish, French and Italian and is available everywhere in those languages :)
Here’s the blurb:
Earth is dying. Her freedom is gone. But surrender might save them all.
When brilliant hacker Melissa Malone is ripped from her life and forced onto a government spacecraft, she thinks surviving an extinction-level asteroid is her biggest problem. She’s wrong.
Renegade aliens strike mid-flight, and Melissa’s rare skills make her more valuable than the rest of the captives. Stripped, examined, and punished for defiance, she’s marked as suitable for one purpose: to be claimed as a bride. Her new “husband,” Damian, is everything she fears—dominant, unforgiving, and impossibly strong.
But Damian is no ordinary captor. He’s Mojazi—an enhanced human from a thriving world Earth lost to time—and an undercover intergalactic police officer infiltrating the faction that hijacked the ship. He needs Melissa’s hacking expertise to stop a rogue programmer with Earth’s fate in his hands. And he'll get her cooperation the hard way if he must.
Obedience isn’t just expected. It’s demanded.
And surrender might be the only way to survive.
I’m so excited to share this book with you (again!) and I hope you love reading it!
Until next time….
With love, Kelly :)
